The Times They are Changin’

The Times They are Changin’

“The Times They Are A Changin'”

Come gather ’round people Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters Around you have grown
And accept it that soon You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you Is worth savin’ Then you better start swimmin’Times they are Changin
Or you’ll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin’.

Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide The chance won’t come again
And don’t speak too soon For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who That it’s namin’
For the loser now Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin’.

Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside And it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’.

Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land
And don’t criticize What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command
Your old road is Rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’.

The line it is drawn The curse it is cast
The slow one now Will later be fast
As the present now Will later be past
The order is Rapidly fadin’
And the first one now Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’.

Does She Talk Too Much?

Does She Talk Too Much?

She May Talk Too Much but She is Funny

Does she talk too much?  Some people say that women talk too much.  This little one does seem to fit that profile.  But does she talk too much?  As a talker from a early age and she certainly implies she has something to say!  This video is so funny!  We know that some babies have a language of their own and sometimes twins can understand each other but I have never heard this much come forth at once!  Wonder what in the world she is talking about and what she needs to be satisfied?

Does she talk too Much?

Do women talk more than men? Proverbs and sayings in many languages express the view that women are always talking:

Women’s tongues are like lambs’ tails – they are never still. –English

The North Sea will sooner be found wanting in water than a woman at a loss for words. –Jutlandic

The woman with active hands and feet, marry her, but the woman with overactive mouth, leave well alone. –Maori

Some suggest that while women talk, men are silent patient listeners.

When both husband and wife wear pants it is not difficult to tell them apart – he is the one who is listening. –AmericanNothing is so unnatural as a talkative man or a quiet woman. –Scottish

Others indicate that women’s talk is not valued but is rather considered noisy, irritating prattle:

Where there are women and geese, there’s noise. –Japanese.

What do you think?  Does she talk too much?

National Sleep Day and Jamison Mattress

National Sleep Day and Jamison Mattress

National Sleep Day and Jamison Mattress

A testimony for Jamison Mattress on National Sleep Day.  National Sleep Day is set aside by our lawmakers to remind us that sleep matters.  The bedding industry reinforces this message.  This is not an advertisement for Jamison Mattress but it is an endorsement borne of personal experience.

National Sleep Day is January 3

Who knew that there was a day our nation dedicated to sleep?  Having spent the last 8 days in my bed with the flu, I am anxious to be part of the rest of the world for a while.  But I do LOVE my sleep.

As I age, I realize the importance that sleep habits and patterns play in our overall well being.  In fact, some of the things learned just this year about sleep are:

  1. Too LITTLE Sleep can increase risk of stroke and other cardiovascular illness – even in people without the usual risk factors, like smoking, a lack of physical activity, or high blood pressure.   Possibly because short sleep increases blood pressure and alters hormones.
  2. Too MUCH Sleep can also increase risks for  the heart, according to a study published in March. Researchers found that people who slept eight or more hours a night had a higher risk for cardiovascular problems including stroke, congestive heart failure and heart attack.
  3. Sleep DEPRIVATION leads to immune system issues and poor eating habits.  A study tracked responses to images of unhealthy and healthy foods and found that on the nights participants got just four hours of sleep, they experienced greater activity in the reward and motivation areas of their brains, suggesting increased vulnerability to the unhealthy picks and poor decision making.

My Jamison Mattress is the Best Investment Ever

National Sleep Day seems a fitting time to tell you about the Jamison Mattress I own.  I could not be happier with the quality and exceptional comfort of the mattress.  About 8 years ago after suffering from tossing and turning all night, I invested in a Jamison pillowtop mattress.  I do not know the name of the particular style but I do know that it is the best investment I have ever made.

My friends have actually requested overnights and sent my husband out of town just for the chance of sleeping on my mattress (note: I did not say sleeping in my bed ).  My grandchildren bicker over who gets to sleep with Nana in her bed and they sleep long and sound.  My family all know that the mattress is top of the line and each seek to experience the comfort and actual nurturing that it provides.

A Puppy for Christmas?

A Puppy for Christmas?

What a Puppy For Christmas Can Mean

Why give a puppy for  Christmas?  “If you resist too much the power of the big primary-color emotions that surround the dog, you’re missing the experience.”A puppy for a Christmas Present

It must be the season of the dog, from the recent treasure chest that is The Big New Yorker Book of Dogs (one of the the best art books of 2012) to the history of rabies to Fiona Apple’s stirring handwritten letter about her dying dog. But what is it about dogs, exactly, that has us so profoundly transfixed?

That’s exactly what former New York magazine executive editor John Homans explores in What’s a Dog For?: The Surprising History, Science, Philosophy, and Politics of Man’s Best Friend (public library) — a remarkable chronicle of the domestic dog’s journey across thousands of years and straight into our hearts, written with equal parts tenderness and scientific rigor.

Rachell and her little red head dog named Opie grew up together.  They ran through the woods, he walked her to the school bus, she gave him baths in the shower, they slept side by side.  He protected her from evil and she fed him every day.  She learned responsibility, consistency, focus and love.  He just exuded love.

We miss Opie but got another little red headed dog that is now giving the same love and attention to my husband (who needs lots of training).

A puppy for a Christmas present?  I cannot think of any other gift that will keep giving and giving and giving for years to come.  Who will show you love and affection, will be loyal and true and keep you sane when all else fails.

Go to the shelter nearest you and find a pup for a gift of love!

Celebrate Cookie Day

Celebrate Cookie Day

Today is National Cookie Day

cookie

Let’s Celebrate!  I started off with just one bite but then I could not help myself and I not only ate the whole cookie, I ate the whole bag!

Its that time of year when all good domestic divas turn to the kitchen to prove their prowess and cookies seem to be the new feather bed as in “Can she make a feather bed, Billy Boy, Billy Boy”?  So in the spirit of Christmas cookies, (not holiday cookies) I thought we should share some of our favorite recipes.

My favorite is so super easy and yet incredibly delicious.  These cookies can be made with chocolate, caramel or peanut butter flavors or a combination of these.  I generally like to make a batch of peanut butter/ caramel and a batch of chocolate/peanut butter. They are surprisingly pretty little tidbits.

Ting a Ling

1 box Kellogg Corn Flake cereal

2 package 12 oz caramel chips

1 cup peanut butter chips

1 cup peanut butter

Melt chips and peanut butter in microwave.  Mix in corn flakes until coated.  Drop by tablespoons onto wax paper cookie sheet.  Let cool and enjoy!

All gone cookie bag

What is your favorite Cookie?
